Brazil still has over 1000 people a day dying from COVID should they be able to run away from that and freely go to other countries? Should they be able to reinfect Americans with new strains of COVID?

You already don’t need a visa to visit many countries - Mexico, EU, etc.

Open borders are a thing for strong, confident people. We have too many weak and fearful people to embrace such an idea. They think the whole world is coming for their jobs, their taxes, and to engage in terrorism. It's really sad to see so many cower in horror.
