Shouldn't the US be ashamed of its overworked population and lands?

Why does everyone brag about being so very hard working?

Because the opposite is a lazy under achiever?
MotherHubbard · 56-60, F
[@981722,morvoren] knowing what to do might help with the overburden and over pollution. Just keep slaving!
morvoren · F
[@1201621,MotherHubbard] You think voluntary poverty is a solution?
Tyr77 · 41-45, M
Most of us are brainwashed hamsters running in our wheels, we simply can't wrap our heads around the truth.

Don't worry, you're not the buzzkill. Everyone outside America already knew.[/c]

[@332402,swirlie] Its sarcasm, one of the few actually fun things Americans are good at.

Why are you against it ? If you are lazy just deal with it . America has a good work ethic because we are able to better our socio economic standing through our own hard work and skill

[@521796,MethDozer] thats mostly to get past the 941s. Corporations are just larger business entities . Without corrupt politicians you couldn’t blame corps for doing what they do to survive and profit .
TexChik · F
[@521796,MethDozer] not all are . Regardless of that you only want to blindly blame . 🙄
MethDozer · M
[@113373,TexChik] The corrupt politicians are owned, played, lobbied, and bought by the rich corporate businesses.

They set the tone. It isn't like they are some victims who desperately tried to hold onto their fairly paid, promoted, and benefitted American hires tooth and nail and were defeated by Washington into sending them offshore to survive. No, they wanted to keep more and more profits for themselves and pushed their lobbies to promote legislation to allow them to move jobs offshore so they didnt have to pay as much for labour or abide by even the most sensible of environmental standards.
MotherHubbard · 56-60, F
I see! They're unaware of any alternatives to compliance- other than non compliance out of utter laziness, and they're not going to be open to anything else. You're not having freedom here!

Capitalism has most people brain washed.

I agree. Putin really does have the right idea. [/c]
i think its more because a lot of people now a days are lazy and want to live off the government.
DestroyerOfIdeologies · 22-25, M
Yeah everybody is so busy gaming these days, and many getting paid for it. No time for anything else.

It comes from the guilt they feel for not actually doing anything except pretending, pretending that they are the biggest and the greatest, pretending there's no better place on earth to live, pretending they are all rich when in fact they live in poverty by world standards. As long as those who pretend to be so very hard working keep pretending, the rest of the more advanced world will merely pull out and pass them while leaving those pretenders of grandiosity in the dust of their own decaying reality. Being an honest and hard worker is something to be proud of. It's the harsh over exploitation of that pride in a good work ethic that is shameful.
DearAmbellina2113 · 36-40, F
I hate "Busy Culture". There's nothing wrong with only wanting to work one job that pays a living wage, rather than 2-3 jobs just to scrape by. Nothing wrong with wanting work to be just the way you make money, instead of your entire purpose in life.
Persephonee · 22-25, F
Because even American Catholics or non-Christians have drunk deep from the well of the Protestant Work Ethic. Plus modern culture socially rewards material success.

Can't decide if it's good or bad overall but I do think that's a strong part of it. Working v(and work's material fruits) are prized over other things.

It's easy to sneer at that (from my perspective anyway) but civilisation does need people like this. So it's a blessing and a curse
Its a Protestant "Calvinist" thing. We have to prove our worth to make sure we are saved to begin with

Its also a schizophrenic philosophy, no wonder so many are driven MAD with it, and the useless endeavors that consume our sorry lives...

Yes some exceptions to that, the one who wrote this post 4 starters!

Ashamed? Why if they didn’t have an enormous pool of desperate, compliant labor they had the leverage to manipulate into working them to death, well then the whole damn system would collapse!
God damn right. People in this country talk about working hard as a virtue. I find that if you have to work hard, then there's something missing.
Self shame isn't all that useful, but t I wouldn't mind more reflection.
Puritan mentality.
