@bijouxbroussard It is utterly unacceptable. Just like the statues he's so worried about preserving, no aspect of any good he may have done will match the chaos and destruction he has wrought. He, too, has to go.

@bijouxbroussard That is something I've felt also, even though those racist views have rarely been directed [i]at[/i] [b]me[/b]. I know and have known people, who espouse undeniably racist views. Those people say that because they wouldn't actually "hurt" anyone, that their holding forth on those views isn't really "harming" anyone.

I do and have and always have disagreed with those people, that those views they speak about and hold forth on...are in any way [i]harmless[/i].

I hear what you're saying about my perspective/privilege, and I'm not trying to discount it.

But I tend to think of maleovolence as involving malicious intent, which I don't think necessarily includes all those who might judge or even "discriminate" based on race.

I'm not saying that those people aren't dangerous or misguided, but maleovolence seems to me to be something distinct from racism, even if there's a lot of overlap.

I'm not saying that racism isn't "harmless" 99.99% of the time, and I think it usually is.

But I think the maleovolence, in the sense of people who actually intend to cause harm to people or act to cause harm, is something different and even more objectionable than some old man in a rocking chair who didnt think much about what his parents taught him or even what he repeated to his grandchildren.

@Graylight When I first said that a couple of weeks ago, it was tongue-in-cheek. Now, seeing him willfully further divide the nation in a culture war, it isn't that far-fetched.

While I agree that the Confederate flag often [i]is[/i] used as a symbol of "hate", I believe it pales in comparison to the glaringly clear "hate" behind your two other examples.

@Piper I would agree, but as a woman who has been discriminated against, I can tell you that the degree of hate plays little into the situation.

Okay, @Graylight. As a woman who has rarely been discriminated against just [i]because[/i] of the shade of my skin, I do know that I am not "insensitive", to the reasons why many people find the displaying of the Confederate flag to be troubling and offensive.

@SmartKat Trump supporters were a minority when he was elected, and have been a minority every single day of his failed presidency. And he's losing more people now. The majority of Americans are much more reasonable.

@windinhishair Gawd, I hope that translates into booting him out of the White House in November.

@bijouxbroussard Trump will cheat in every way possible--voter suppression on a massive scale, foreign involvement from Russia, China, and perhaps others in our election, and possibly even lawsuits disputing the results. Everyone needs to vote in November.
