And who are these "Elites" you speak of?

By definition an "Elite" is a group of people with power, who approve more of their way of life than other peoples and want to preserve it for themselves. What they dont want is for everyone to share in what they have. They simply wish to enforce their ways, values and standards on everyone else, because they are better. So. I ask you. Who are the real Elitists? Sanders, Warren and co? Or McConnell, Graham and Pence? Lets leave Trump out of this.. You can call him a lot of things. But Elite doesnt apply to him at all.

"Elites" was a term coined by the right wing to cast "Us vs. Them" aspersions on Democrats who are educated, successful and, more than likely, urban dwellers.
Not even sure what to say to Trump not being elitist. He's lived his whole life around big money and wouldn't have walked across the street to spit on a "real American" prior to running for office. He's the EPITOME of elitism.

@Ynotisay While he has the trappings of wealth to put him in the company of the Elite, he does lack the conservative views and Old name of say a Rockefeller. Cast back and there was a time when the Kennedy family didnt make the cut.
Liberal elite is a stereotype of politically left-wing people whose education had traditionally opened the doors to affluence and power and form a managerial elite. It is commonly invoked pejoratively, with the implication that the people who claim to support the rights of the working class are themselves members of the ruling classes and are therefore out of touch with the real needs of the people they claim to support and protect.

Unlike an actual elite who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and 415 million given to him by big daddy.

@whippersnapper I find it interesting that "Liberal Elites" tend to be inclusive. Encouraging others to aspire, rather than knowing their place.
@whowasthatmaskedman I think it may be specific to the US since we don't necessarily have a class system?

@whippersnapper I think most nations have them.. Just based on differing cultural norms.. Some countries have aristocrats going back 5 centuries. Some have a moneyed or propertied class. The latter are obviously easier to move into over time. India has a caste system which now legally outlawed is still alive and well as a double standard from birth.

It's interesting that populist if the left and right both talk about elites. For example :Nigel Farage and Jeremy Corbyn do this, as do Spiked magazine and Novarra media.

The main the same thing and also something different. With the left, it's more about aconomic elite whereas for the populist right, it's more about culture and geography. New York values, and Islington Liberal are right wing troups. The left talks about the billionaire class.

This is a recent thing and has come about since the financial crash of 2007 but also because of the declining living standards in the west under capitalist globalisation. The left analysis has remained consistent but has some traction now when it used to be marginal. The right analysis has seen neo liberal Conservatives become nationalists.

I resent the whole “elite” thing. I sound like an educated person and I’m an East Coast white person, so the rednecks sometimes put that label on me. Yeah, when I have money and influence, *then* I’ll qualify.
All of the above, except Trump. He's his own kind.

@Mamapolo2016 I agree. If anything he has always been a "Klingon".. Someone who doesnt have the class to be Elite, but wants to be associated with them.
By my definition of 'class' - none of them are classy. @whowasthatmaskedman

@Mamapolo2016 Couldnt agree with you more.
Doesn’t stop him from being “elitist”, though. He definitely thinks he’s better than everyone else and the laws and modes of conduct others are expected to follow don’t apply to him or his family. 😒
