In the 1930s a former Assistant Secretary of Commerce was arrested and jailed for 10 days after a trial in the Senate. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the sentence.

Impeachment would be more practical and a trial would hit Mnuchin where it hurts, in his pocketbook, because he could face prosecution as well if convicted.

More likely, the Democrats will simply fight this in the Courts.

I guess they can take the Senate's temperature on impeachment, but it seems unlikely, so it seems like it ought to end up in court, but im not exactly sure which way it might get there if the DOJ refuses to prosecute.

Maybe the House could file a mandamus suit against Mnuchin?

@abe182 Anyone who becomes potus is an idiot? Or is he an idiot if his tax returns are provided? Either way, he has to do it by law. He can't opt out because he's afraid someone will discover tax fraud.

@abe182 They are likely to find tax fraud, for starters. The purpose would be to find out where Trump has financial interests, because his refusal to put his assets in a trust creates conflicts of interest in his dealings with other nations. We need to know where those conflicts are, to serve the interests of the nation. Trump clearly serves only his own interests.
