Haven't asked anything "controversial " in a while so... Do you think the pledge of allegiance should be discontinued in schools? Why or why not?

One of my core education classes for college is going a debate on this topic right now on whether or not schools should or shouldn't discontinue making students participate in the pledge of allegiance every morning and why. Since I'm allowed to research and ask opinions from others I decided why not ask on here since most people are pretty blunt on their views.
I'm not giving my opinion on this, only because I'm I'm supposed to be a neutral party but would really appreciate to know others thoughts of this and why they feel the way they do about it.

Yes because it was hijacked on 1954

@MasterLee We could always un-hijack it.

@BlueVeins we should
@MasterLee Why is adding "under God" hijacking it?

@CopperCicada unneeded and trivialized it. The pledge is intended to unite us. Those words divide us.
@MasterLee Just playing the devil's advocate here-- I've got a good dozen people in my circle in real life who would say that America is a Protestant Christian country, and anyone else isn't a real American. So it's they who have divided themselves, not the pledge.

@CopperCicada still doesn't mean it is just because someone claims it
@MasterLee That is the predominant political sentiment. I don't make the rules.
