Would Puerto Rico be better of if it became independent?

Would Puerto Rico be better of if it was independence?
It's interesting listening to people discuss Puerto Rican statehood and independence.

Probably the only time Americans worry themselves about the independence and sovereignty of Latin American peoples.

Sort of interesting that what really drives this deep and sincere concern for the liberty of Puerto Ricans (who are American citizens) is a combined fear of inheriting the poverty of Puerto Rico if they become a state, or even stay an unincorporated territory of the United States...

... and a worry that more Spanish speaking people may come to the continental United States if they stay a territory or become a state.

no but the U.S. would be better off
@MarineBob they're US citizens

Best solution for all involved.

CC set forth a complete list of differences. @JoeyFoxx @CopperCicada
@jackjjackson There are no differences when it comes to citizenship. Jones-Shafroth act. 1917.

If there is a difference-- they have no representation.

Even citizens of some of the other territories have representatives in the house, though with limited powers.

Thanks. I misunderstood.

I’m glad you agree that Puerto Rican are full American Citizens.

I appreciate the clarification

@SW-User I like your answer
It would probably just be another country that falls under the traps of capitalism(that comes with independance) and people would have a worst fate than before since the rich would get richer and the poor would get poorer.

The last report I saw was that they get $21 billion a year in total federal aid. I don't know how they could make that from taxes if they were independent
Mariocrespo8546 · 31-35, M
@GJOFJ3 I understand
Shine · 22-25, F
worse off probably
Shine · 22-25, F
@Mariocrespo8546 it wouldn’t change anything no matter what language they spoke.
Mariocrespo8546 · 31-35, M
@Shine so spanish would stay in Puerto Rico
Shine · 22-25, F
@Mariocrespo8546 your country would be poorer if you left the US.

You don’t have to do that to yourselves to speak Spanish.

just make it an official borough of NYC, it pretty much already is
@Niburu Nuyoricans.

For them? No at all. The country already bankrupted itself.with all the aid as a Commonwealth coming in. Be another Haiti.
