Only in America. It all suddenly makes sense.

To quote John Belushi in "The Blues Brothers" .."Jesus H Christ , I have seen the light!"
I now understand the whole thing. The Trump election. The acceptance of his transparent lies, the turn outs at his meetings. The fear in the Republican house. The rabid support for the Supreme court nominee. The diversion and denial of his Fubars so far and the stories of his "winning". I finally get it.. And the good news, is that the rest of the word has little to worry about . This could only happen in America.
America is a deeply religious nation, and Trump is the Messiah to these people. They don't need logic, facts or proof. They have "faith". And as long as they keep it, he will deliver them to the promised land, by and by. Right now he is doing the miracle of the loaves and fishes, fresh back from his water into wine gig.
The point is. There is no point talking logically about the existence of God or evolution to a religious fanatic who is headed for paradise. They have faith in the face of any amount of evidence based on real facts and anyone else with a different view is a heretic or a False Profit. These people are right , because they have faith.
If this goes on, look for more signs of the Cult of Trump.

Shortly after the election, I had conversations with members of my family who supported him. My sister, in particular, said things like "you don't know him like I do". In college, I wrote papers and did research projects on cults, and a lot of the language I heard from my family reminded me of street interviews and interviews in the Guyana compound of Jim Jones. I do believe that Trump has that type of hold on part of his base, because the intensity of their defense of him matches that of the loyalty elicited by a cult leader.

I totally agree. And the Cult members are certain mind set and have often had difficult pasts that make them vulnerable, Like many of Trumps working poor supporters who suffered through no fault of their own through Americas decline.@SW-User

That's exactly how that seduction works. "I alone can fix it" was probably the most crystal clear example of Trump making the messiah case to his followers. Once he convinced them of that point, it was game over. He wore them down by tearing everyone and everything down, sowing seeds of doubt about everyone and everything else.

He had them primed and ready to believe he was the messiah who could deliver them from that doubt to his certainty. It's pointless to argue with someone who has bought into a leader at that level, because it is faith and not logic. Any attempt to counter their messiah will be met with a visceral and often viscous response, because they've attached part (if not all) of their identity to him.

That attachment to identity is one reason why people willingly kill themselves for their cult leaders, and I'm sure if Trump went on a Jim Jones type rant and told everyone to drink the poisoned Flavor Aid (it wasn't actually Kool Aid), some of his millions of followers would do it.

You'll always find an audience appealing to the lowest common denominator.
Only in America? Many corrupt leaders have had their fanboys and followers.

True.. But you cant beat good old America for Christian Zeal. Most other countries look to their leaders and their own efforts to get through this life and trust "god" will look after the next. @nonsensiclesnail

will you kneel and pray then if we get through the term without war or recession?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
No.. But there again, I wouldn't kneel before any "God". I look at the world and don't see they have done a job running the place that warrants praise. In fact, they have a lot of 'splainin to do.@Jackaloftheazuresand
