Suppose Dr Ford decides NOT to testify EVER?

Scribbles · 36-40, F
Then that is her business...
perhaps it will still be investigated and the findings made known. whatever that may be. Then people will decide if they care or not about it.
Some seem to have already decided without an investigation (such people really get on my nerves)

and we can go back to focussing on all the other reasons Judge Kavanaugh might be a unsuitable supreme court judge pick or not. Then he'll become a supreme court justice or not. And this will all be forgotten by everyone except Kavahaugh, Dr. Ford, and those closet to them.

tbh, I feel terrible for Dr. Ford. all she did was write a letter, that she intended to be anonymous and asked to be anonymous...it wasn't her fault that the senator made it public to stall things...or that it blew up in her face to be this huge public thing.

However many people make it sound like Dr. ford made this all up on the spot...the day of. The letter was one of many things in Kavanaugh's file long before his confirmation hearing.

I've been abused far far worse than Dr. Ford in her account...if any of those people were up on a list to become a supreme court judge...I'd be in a moral quandry. Do people have a right to know the character of that person when in a position like that? probably. Do you shout about it? Do you try to quietly let people know? Or do you stay silent? Many victims stay silent precisely because they don't want it to blow up in their face.

But getting the truth out can be important regardless. and shouldn't be hindered if that is the chosen course. It's just too bad that often it's the victim that has more painful consequences for truth-telling then lying or staying silent. Seems anybody who stand up for themselves or others is more likely to face losing their job.

The real pickle for some in this case...is whether its true, and whether the actions of his drunken 17 year old self apply 30 plus years later. Some will care, others won't depending on their agenda and morality. Even I'm not sure about the answer to either.

Some just think it's all a lie...and think democrats just LOVE to accuse conservatives of sexual misconduct.

Perhaps better justice if its true would be to hold Kavanaugh down and let Dr. Ford kick him in the balls and punch him in the face. That's the kind of justice I'd want for a drunken person pushing me into a bedroom and trying to hold me down and take my clothes off...then maybe that will help her to move on...and the senate judiciary committee can decide what they want to do.

in any case, I think it's wrong to drag Dr. Ford's personal life into party politics tactics.

I don't care if she testifies...but I hope the allegation is investigated as is right. I hope any and all suspicious things in any supreme court justice candidate is investigated and vetted. Anything less is just corruption.

I also wonder...that if certain conservatives hadn't tried to hide thousands of documents regarding kavanaugh and push a vote right away...and had been reasonable in allowing everyone on the senate judiciary committee time to read the documents and actually vet Kavanaugh...would this Dr. Ford thing ever have been made public? possibly not. We would have still been arguing about Kavanaugh lying about his finances...and hiding about how he has paid massive debts. Or about how he doesn't know the difference between birth control and abortion pills.

What I mean is...conservatives and liberals are using this to argue more...and fight more...and pick at each other's faults, and be paranoid about each other. That can be easy to do when your perspective is that the "other side" is wrong. We're practically in a "cold war" with each other. I really wish though...that both parties would see this as an example of how playing dirty politics just makes things worse. And that they should be less corrupt and take their government job more seriously then being "republican" or "Democrat" or whatever lobbyist is influencing them, or oher agendas or whatever.

Personally...if I was on the senate judiciary committee, I'd set my feelings aside for now...and I'd tell people that I intend to listen to everything going on and wait for the investigation on this and continue to vet other areas in his life. And that I intend to judge Kavanaugh as his 53 year old self. That means that if he's lied by denying knowledge, and the investigation finds out it was all true. That looks very bad for him. And it means That I care about his entire background, including but not only a possible criminal decision as a 17 year old drunk. And I;d tell people that when all the info comes back...then I can check the boxes and say if he's suitable or not.

The only thing inaccurate is thst Dr Ford went to the Washington Post THEN Feinstein didn’t release but DISCUSSED the letter. The letter itself has not been made public. If he attempted rape he is disqualified. Let’s hear testimony get the facts not rush to judge and have a fact based decision made one way or the other. @Scribbles
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@jackjjackson I had heard that it all happened around the same time and she had made a decision to do both at the time. I'm not saying I'd make the same choices as Dr. Ford in her shoes...but I can understand tipping off some reporters as well as writing the letter. She might have had somebody even advise her to do so- if only so her letter wouldn't just be tossed out. Or because they knew-all this would happen-unlikely since didn't it all happen before Trump made his pick from the list?

Does that make a difference? Name and details were released enough, to a huge degree her life is ruined and not made any better by any of this. She;s even stated that she feels it won't change a thing, and judge K will be confirmed, and she didn't want to be dragged into the spotlight like she has. Was anyone really concerned about her safety and security right away? Was anyone really concerned about Kavanaugh's either, or that if he's not the guy...that he's career and life will be damaged? Or concerned with some privacy for both until an investigation is done? hardly.
Very few if any have spoken up about any of that.

Just seems to me, that alot of people just love an excuse to hatemonger each other .

"Get the facts...etc" Yeah, I can agree with that. :)

And according to the internet, she has accepted testifying just a little while ago. Not sure if that means she'll give a sworn statement and answer questions under oath or what terms that will be exactly. And now it's just waiting to see what she says and what investigators can turn up, and everything.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I agree. It’s all good for hate mongers. What happens over the next week may we’ll change at least ten times just like last week. @Scribbles
nedkelly · 61-69, M
Dr Ford should shut the fuck up - she should have reported this to the police 36 years ago instead of trying to make herself famous before Brett Kavanaugh was nominated for the supreme court
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
True. Whether it was reported is far from determinative. Perhaps it might be a good idea to get all the facts and make a determination prior to issuing a sentence? I venture to say YOU would not like to be treated that way. @CopperCicada
@jackjjackson The meta-question is unrelated to sexual violence. How have appointments become like this? Either slowing them to a halt or cage fighting as they are pushed through.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
It’s been ground to a halt and the committee is awaiting hearing from Dr Ford. The committee is waiting for Dr Ford to announce in what day she wishes to testify. I don’t see anything currently being “rammed through”. @CopperCicada
Hikingguy · 56-60, M
Just to leave him with a smeared name.
Hikingguy · 56-60, M
@jackjjackson I agree.?but let Justice do it’s job. Not the whole world condemning him.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Yep. Let’s hear all the testimony and withhold judgment until then. @Hikingguy
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@jackjjackson Do you remember - Anita Hill who become infamous when she accused Clarence Thomas when he was nominated and is on the supreme court
SW-User
Then the man who sexually assaulted her gets away scott free?
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@SW-User do some research on Anita Hill who become infamous when she accused Clarence Thomas when he was nominated and is on the supreme court
SW-User
@nedkelly The difference that I found was that during Anita Hill's testimony, George H.W. Bush did authorize an FBI investigation on her claims about Clarence Thomas, before they both testified about them during Thomas’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings. And that investigation took three days and concluded that the allegation was unfounded.

So why aren't Trump and the Republicans not following the same precedent and authorize a similar investigation? They want to pretend that this is simply a “he said/she said” situation with no other evidence available, when clearly it is not. So what are they hiding? I mean if anyone were accused of something damaging by someone, you'd think they would issue an investigation to claim innocence.
hlpflwthat · M
@SW-User Lol - he never imagined that anyone actually would do some research, Shame on you. 🤤
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
She'll become another talking head on CNN.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Excellent prediction! @GunSmoke9
Mysti · 51-55, F
Food for thought. If the FBI does decide to investigate. Will she at least talk to them. Or are they suppose to wing it without her help? How are they suppose to investigate if she doesn't cooperate?
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Dr Ford still in in CA and now says she does not want to fly. Dr Ford has not committed TO testify. How does this play out if Dr Ford decides to NEVER testify?
katielass · F
The she might save herself some embarrassment because she will not be believed, because she's not telling the truth.
Novice · 18-21, M
I think Kavanaugh probably gets confirmed if she doesn't testify.
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
I'm not sure why we should believe her. We KNOW all those women were lying that accused Clinton of sexual assult. It was all part of the vast right wing conspiracy.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Let’s hear testimony before rushing to judgment please. @GJOFJ3
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
@jackjjackson not rushing to judgment. Just saying isn't it likely since Clinton's accusers were all called liars in spite of the evidence, even by Mrs Clinton.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
That’s not right. @GJOFJ3
At this rate, she might be better off not testifying.

Your link seems to be gone. Good point tho if Dr Ford does testify it WILL BE under penalty of perjury. @MistyCee

The family has spoken. You will plow right through it.
