It’s not that difficult to understand. The USA is gigantic in economy, land, and raw materials...

We have every ability to be self sufficient. Making ourselves, in essence, our own customers would make our country rich. A USA/ China trade war would be VERY good for USA and VERY bad for China. It’s time we level the playing field. Fair is fair.

Funny, but at least 25 economic organizations and analyst believe differently.
GardenSage · 36-40, M
@Graylight ok just like most of the modern world economy
Graylight · 51-55, F
@GardenSage God, but you like to hear yourself speak.
GardenSage · 36-40, M
@Graylight ummm do you provide anything but insults and emotion?

Off with you

@lorne13 are you denying our ability to create that market for ourselves? Or are you just certain that rich people will get angry?
GardenSage · 36-40, M
@lorne13 I misread- excuse me... you’re right. We’d lose money there but surely make it back up somewhere else.

That’s what nullifying a deficit does
GardenSage · 36-40, M
@lorne13 also what struck me is that would drive down the cost of pharmaceuticals in america... not a bad idea really.

And big pharma suffers? How is this all a bad thing again?

As the report says, American businesses and consumers will also pay the price. Isn't Trump supposed to support Americans? As always, the poorest in society will be affected the most but Trump is unlikely to care about such things.

American businesses, like any other, will seek to maximise profits and if being based in America works against them they would be wise to set up divisions elsewhere.
GardenSage · 36-40, M
@fazer1k we will certainly suffer in some minor areas TEMPORARILY... but USA has the education, wealth, and raw material and natural resources to over come it quickly and effectively... essentially creating more jobs and industry for Americans. It’s a means to an end in which America shines out on top.
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@GardenSage Time will tell whether America will come out on top or not.

If you could produce materials cheaper than other countries you would already be doing so and the trade deficit would not exist. American businesses and consumers will lose, but Trump will gain some taxes he can use to give breaks to the wealthy (provided worldwide sales of American goods don't fall too far as a result of increased prices, that is).
GardenSage · 36-40, M
It’s not really that complex as the post implies... @fazer1k
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
You have the 'potential' to be seldlf sufficient but your economy is not set up that way or anything close.

Your trade deficit is massive, especially with China.
GardenSage · 36-40, M
@Burnley123 lol I’m talking about creating industry. That’s how you make stuff. That’s how you build jobs.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@GardenSage And Trump is not doing that, nor has he any intention of doing that. You'd need a new New Deal for this to happen.
GardenSage · 36-40, M
@Burnley123 forget TRUMP! Americans are willing to do- and able to do- what we have to do. Count on that.
bobby1975 · F
Less than 3% of our incomes are spent on Chinese goods
bobby1975 · F
@GardenSage perfect. We now know you can actually do some thinking for yourself.
GardenSage · 36-40, M
@bobby1975 you must want American to fail if you support a 309 BILLION dollar trade deficit.

Eat shit hater.
GardenSage · 36-40, M
@bobby1975 oh lord.. you look absolutely fucking stupid. Congrats. Don’t let this kook psychoanalyze you!
