Pretty Good Summation of the Far Left (or Far Right in Terms of Need for Government Control)

Many still regard Marxism as a good idea that fell into bad hands, notably Lenin’s and Stalin’s. I prefer the view of Martin Amis, expressed in The New York Times the other day: “It was not a good idea that somehow went wrong. It was a very bad idea from the outset, forced into life with barely imaginable self-righteousness, pedantry, dynamism and horror.” It defied human nature, so humans accepted it only under threat of violence, which inevitably was applied. In the hands of bullies who wanted power, Marxism was a terrifying weapon.

Most of what Marx actually wrote was a critical theory about capitalism.

Read some Marx then decide for yourself.

@Burnley123 I studied it in school. The arguments were to some extent well outlined. He just forget the primal individualism mixes with the collective.

I'm not sure that is really his analysis, though it might be the view of a teacher. His theory of history is all about who human' s mix with the collective.

In some ways we are inherently social creatures anyway and have been since we were hunter gatherers. Darwinism is for sharks.

It looks like the article's author, is stuck in the early 1950s. When he says "Many still regard Marxism as a good idea", whom do you think he means? I certainly don't see any mainstream US politicians, or world politicians for that matter, arguing that Marxism, is a good idea.

@okaybut The rebel media? Really? Here's an idea: they should learn how to write in English, and in full sentences, and for f's sake, do they have enough ED ads on that page?

BTW, a tweet by an NDP candidate, when Castro died, is not proof that world politicians are going Marxist.

As to your
Come to Canada....
statement. Thank you, but I already do and have a house there.

@okaybut 🤣 you do realize this is the same tweet, right? OMG

Martin Amis nailed it when he said it defies human nature. We have a natural impulse to compete and look for our individual progress. The only way to impose equality is through violence, physical (like communism did), or mental (like modern left does, keeping people on a guilt trip)

I don't think the word 'far' is needed, though. The left is like that
okaybut · 56-60, M
@Cierzo I say the far left...because on the fringes before "far" some good change can come. It just gets distorted in my view when suppression of individual rights creeps in.

To me it's simple, any utopian idea is a paradox. The original fairy tales were horrible and served as warnings. Utopians are nothing but cautionary tales. The first thing in a paradise to ask is what would you have to sacrifice in order to live there.

Perhaps that is why the left is against private gun ownership
JP1119 · 36-40, M
The far left is dead, at least in the USA. You’re beating a dead horse.
Northwest · M
@JP1119 The far left in the US is not Marxism, and never was. Sure, there have been people who identified as Marxists, but they were never more than the fringe.
