Why are my cats being so freaking rebellious when I always go out of town for school?

My mom says that one of my cats took off and lost her collar. She never takes it off and looses it when I am there. And they destoryed my mother's plants breaking the pots and such. They never do that type of damage when I am there. What's going on?!?! :0(
