Not really, no. There's usually at least one loud, obnoxious person, and when the bus is crowded it can be a real pain. If everyone is nice and polite, it's not that bad, but that's all too rare.

I often travel long distance by bus.
It's cheaper than any other method of travel.

I often plan the journey. So i'll stay awake and look out the window until i get somewhere i don't recognize the drop off to sleep for an hour or two. Then i'll look out the window for an hour maybe. Then read a book or the paper. Have a snack maybe.

I always want to get off the bus in daylight. Can be treacherous in a strange place if you don't know where you're headed from your stop in the dark in a strange place.
And you're right. Bus stations at night in strange towns can be eerie places.

Greyhound and Trailways can be really nasty here in the states. I've had some nightmare bus trips. Wyoming and Montana have the cleanest buses and they have movies too.

On short transit it's not bad. I did it once long distance (Greyhound) and hated every minute of it...never again.

I actually kinda like it if the seats are comfortable and the people are polite. I rarely get both at once though 😒
