What are your best memories of your pets?

When I was in high school, we had a dog, a little terrier of some sort. We'd put out food for her (she was an outside dog), and she would always leave some.

At some point, we noticed this poor, starved-looking puppy hanging around. He was obviously some sort of big dog, part rottweiler or something, but clearly underfed. When our dog wasn't around the food bowl, the puppy would run up, grab a mouthful, and then retreat.

The dog we had was quite old, and died soon after we noticed this puppy. We knew he was snatching food, and even though he wasn't "our" dog, we kept putting out food. Eventually, he must have noticed that our old dog wasn't around anymore, but we were still putting out food. We managed to coax him in until he realized that we were putting the food out for him.

Once he realized that we weren't going to run him off or there wasn't going to be another dog trying to run him off, Dog just adopted us completely. He followed me everywhere. I'd often walk into town, and he'd go with me.

Once, I walked over to my brother's house. We both stood on the porch urging him to come in the house with us (Dog was an outside dog). We could tell that he really, really wanted to come in, but he'd never been allowed in the house before. We gave up and went inside.

A little bit later, in walked Dog from the back rooms of the house. We never had any idea how he managed to get in, but there he was, just as happy as could be to be inside.

@SW-User Sorry for your loss. My dog passed a few weeks ago. So I know what it’s like to lose a pet you care about.
