I Am Sometimes Antisocial

Is being antisocial bad?
MrTimothyMcNeil · 26-30, M
I'm too timid to answer that question...

OK, to give a real answer, no. Not in the least. People will say "Why don't you talk much?" or "Why do you stay in on Saturdays?" or "How come you don't have a lot of friends?", and it just means that you're reserved and you don't just jump into situations. You observe and learn and make sure that the people you're gonna be around aren't snakes and won't hurt you or laugh at your feelings or any snakey things like that. I'm the same way, in that I like to be my myself and think a lot. I have a very social and outgoing side, and sometimes I just want to sit at home and not let my throat make a sound save for a cough. There's not a damn thing wrong with it.
It can be hard to be social, you need to care about people enough to learn about them, be able to pull up a joke to make them laugh, or know what to say when they are sad, and this can be trying, actually quite tiring.

It is so much easier to just slip out the back door and go read a book or something.

Some people thrive on being social, and others despise it. I am like you.

I don't think it is a bad thing.

From my experience, being antisocial can backfire. We all have our journeys and issues that we need to work out on our own. It can be a fine line between isolating yourself to the point where you can go stir crazy or not finding the people to be with when you want to socialize. It's ok to be antisocial every so often. Just remember to touch base with the people who you care about once in to keep a balance.

I'm not sure if I'm really anti social or anything... but i mostly prefer to keep things to my self; i like being quite and thinking deeply to myself. I mostly don't like being around the same set of people over and over again

If it's your nature to keep to yourself and you're happy that way, then it's natural for you and fine. If it's the result of shyness and misanthropy, then it's maybe not fine as it can keep you out of participating in life.
