Would you rather your kids wear a uniform to school or clothing of their choice?

rckt148 · 61-69, M
I can see the benefits of a uniform at some schools .
It puts everyone on the same playing field
and the kids who's families have means can't pick on the kids less fortunate .
they all wear the exact same thing .
Then they can concentrate on the reason they are there ,and not the fashion show .

@rckt148 As long as the uniform wasn’t ugly. No pleated skirts!

@SmartKat I always thought the girls uniforms with knee high socks was kind of sexy myself .
I seen girls roll up the waist line to make them shorter ,tie the top instead of button them .
So I am glad most schools have a dress code that require uniforms and them to be worn a certain way .
A teenage boy wouldn't get much work done with all that on his mind .

My Nephew was bullies in regular school ,now my brother is not the man to toy with especially when it comes to our kids ,he spent 18 yrs in prison ,so lets say he is not afraid to go back .
But his woman worked hard to keep the family together while he was in and out of prison ,so when her son was bullied a private school was offered to him .
Some of the kids in that school ,their families are rich ,my brother is not .
So the uniforms help him to fit in .
He looks the same as everyone else ,he is amazingly smart .
So this will keep him interested in school and living up to his potential
and not thinking of dropping out from being bullied ,he gets along good with his classmates at the new school ,he actually hated virtual school over the virus.
He and my son both missed their classmates .
And my brother won't end up back in prison for threatening a principle .

If I were parent, uniform if I were child, own clothes. Coincidentally, I now have the option, and wear a work shirt everyday🤭
Uniform.

My daughters attended a school for 2 years that required them to wear a uniform. It made early mornings easy... never had to worry about what they were going to wear.

My child went to a private school where own clothing was worn. They had a strict dress code and said they chose own clothing with a dress code to teach them how to be respectable. I thought it was a good idea.

In the last two years the man that started and ran the school passed and his son took over. He was all about the money and made a deal with a company that the school would get donations the more uniforms they ordered. We went along with it but didn't like the idea.
I wore a Catholic school uniform from 1-4th grade. All my friends wore one so It never bothered me. I’m sure it was easier for my parents as we didn’t have to go school clothes shopping 🤷‍♀️

I don't have any kids yet but there is no reason why they shouldn't wear a school uniform. We all had to when I was in school and most of us saw nothing wrong with it.

@HairbrushDiva agreed..school is not a fashion show..

A shock collar would be fine. Keep the runts from skipping class.

Choice. This isn't some bullshit snobby British preparatory school. Freedom is freedom. Kids already aren't allowed make any decisions for themselves through so many other things. Let them express themselves with this, or they'll become the bland, boring, emotionless, full of hatred adults the brits seem to be.
Uniform purely for convenience, for me.

HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@Adec757 Plimsolls, of course. What a question to ask!
Adec757 · 51-55, M
@HairbrushDiva gymnastics?
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@Adec757 I meant why do you question whether plimsolls are worn or not?

SmartKat · 56-60, F

@SmartKat I grew up in Canadian public school. We didn’t have uniforms but I was also fortunate enough to live in an area that didn’t make fun of you for the clothes you wore. However, I think school uniforms are better.

I wore a uniform and it made my mornings much easier

Uniform..school is not a fashion show!
I wore uniforms. I understood from friends who went to public school it was less hassle than being picked apart for not dressing “fashionably”, or picked on because someone was jealous of nicer clothing. In my school some girls “rearranged” their skirts to shorten them or missed top shirt buttons in a bid for individuality—if they could get away with it. But that was as far as things went.

Uniform seems pointless to me.
