Do you parents compare your children to others?

I don’t have kids, but growing up my mom and stepdad compared me to other kids constantly to try to get me to stop doing something I couldn’t control.

“I bet none of the other kids in your class...”

And I bet none of their parents is such a bitch, and oh look, I WAS RIGHT!!

No, they didn't and it would have been very foolish of them if they had. I loved my parents dearly (part of that was they didn't do cruel and pointless things such as you describe) but I could go very Mama Lioness if my cub was being negatively compared.

She's only ten months old but I won't do that to her even when she gets older. Besides, she's the littlest angel, there could be no improvement 😇

@SW-User no idea but as a kid that has it happen I think parents believe it motivates the kid but in my case (which may be isolated) it does the opposite

@Cow1919 yeah it never motivated me either! It motivates no one for that matter! It's only frustrating and makes the child a rebel. But just stop letting it bother you. The more you embrace yourself the less it will bother you.
