Iself depends on the situation and the topic. From founding a compromiss to send her to her room or given her "the look" you talk about. Only when she start to use call me or her dad names we would be react more serious.

I didn’t back talk because I knew what would happen...just as my kids didn’t back talk me as they knew what would happen

We didn’t talk back and it wasn’t because they’d whip us with a cat o’ nine tails and tie us to a tree in the backyard.

It simply wasn’t done. We could present a civil argument for our side, but there was no endless whining and door slamming and yelling.

It was the same with my daughter.

I remember one and only one incident of hearing a friend of mine call her mother ‘a worthless bitch’ and at 15, I seriously expected lightning bolts to strike. It just wasn’t done.
