Often times the things which arouse us the most can be almost paradoxically related to the very things that enrage or disgust us in non-sexual contexts. (Note the many straight-laced, high-powered businessmen who frequent the dominatrix dungeons of any major city.) This applies to both the physical and social/psychological components of sex. I mean, I don’t know about you, but I’m not too keen on having nice smooth freshly shaved vagina near my face when I’m eating my breakfast cereal. However, that doesn’t keep me from getting on my knees and eating it for hours later that same day. For a long time I couldn’t reconcile my sexual desires with my "feminist principles", but once I understood more about the perplexing relationship between them – there’s actually a great piece on Psychology Today that breaks this phenomenon down even further – I realized I was missing the point. One of the most empowering things anyone can do is to take control of their own sexuality, and if we embrace the sex-positive assertion that all safe, consensual sexual practices are healthy if pleasurable then I say leave the judgment at the bedroom door and enjoy oneself! I am not a woman, and can't speak for them, but I wonder if this is the same idea behind ones who enjoy group sex, gangbangs, bukake, etc. Do they get true sexual empowerment from being the star of the show? I am endlessly fascinated by this...And let me tell you, it's BEYOND a shame that women are so routinely shamed for their sexuality. Lets break down the double standards, and understand one another.
So I say, watch as much or as little porn as you like and watch whatever turns you on. If you can, consider not keeping your secret so safe. Talk about it with your girlfriends and your partners, and enjoy yourself! Life is too short.
