And, why is it exactly that we respond to threads where the best the author is willing to reply with is little else than some insipid emoji?

How do we know that will be the case when we initially respond? I reply to posts I find initially engaging. Be that in a good way, bad way or humorous / witty posts.

I always try to engage with others in posts, especially people taking the time to respond to mine or when responding to another thread I'm contributing either verbally with a statement or simply with a like/dislike or laughter emoji.
