I Love Old Houses

I love old houses, the creak and the funny noise old door hinges make. The style of door knobs, the old kauri wooden floors. The interior design, no open plan, every room has a door to shut out prying eyes.

The smell of timber and character of these old houses speaks a thousand word. My particular choice of house would have to be timber.

I'm thinking of purchasing an old house once I finish University. Will renovate but try to keep the character of the house intact. I can imagine myself laying on the floor and imagine how many people has lived in it, the experience they've had, sad moments and happy moments. The different types of laughter and cry that once echoed through corridors. The food that was once cooked in the kitchen and the people that sit to dine.

An amazing journey in a future old house.

How old? I miss my grandparents' old house. It was built in 1829 and had its own personality. It had become a person in its own right.

My grandparents' house was sold, unfortunately, after they died. It still feels odd not being able to go there.
I hope you find your special house. I think houses are like symbols. The older they are, the more powerful they are.
One of the oddest things I have experienced in regards to old buildings is having memories of things that aren't there. Such as, I remember breaking a window when I was 5 but it was in a wall that never had a window. And I can vividly remember a staircase where there has never been a staircase. Has that ever happened to you?

@StompingCrow: omg yes, my family still have their family home. The mysterious staircases and rooms. Fortunately my father share my passion for old houses, we've renovate to maintain safety standards but the character of the house is still as my great great grand father built it.
