I Hate What This World Is Becoming

Hate to be one of these people but was blocked by a right leaning person who shall not be named out of common decency/respect for not agreeing with an opinion whilst speaking in an objective way and not even directly speaking to them in the first place.
This is a person who constantly said that Liberals are the ones who can't stand the opinions of others and block people they don't agree with.

This isn't a moan about this particular person, but what i'm trying to say is that denial and ignorance (unwillingness to listen) are not traits that belong to a specific political party, and i think if people stop name calling and take this to heart then people would be able to have actual discussions and in a more objective and productive way.

I lean pretty far right but I’m always willing to listen to other opinions, in my mind that’s how you learn. If they can present facts it’s well worth looking into changing my opinion or at least re-evaluating it and I’m perfectly fine with that.

When I make comments on political topics here people tend to jump on my age, because I’m young I must be dumb. Or because I lean right I must love trump etc and I get poked at for it like we’re in middle school. that’s a huge waste of my time when I’m trying to either explain my side or understand someone else’s.

@GlitterBug The problem is a lot of people, not all, don't have a side to offer. It's trendy to be outraged about something, so they blindly follow along. If you ask them for basic information or any alternatives to what they're so upset about the personal attacks start.
I never thought I'd be called a homophobic racist because I don't think a president should be assassinated. Look at that, I guess I did learn something.

@AcidBurn Political discourse is super unhealthy right now and it's largely become about cheering for your team rather than showing any integrity for your own beliefs.

And the name-calling HAS to stop. I'm as left as you get and the left needs to sort its shit out. Callout culture does not work. Funnily enough, calling someone a racist doesn't cause someone to examine their own behaviour, they just think you're an asshole.

That is what bugged me about President Obama, the hope and change, never happened. I didn't like some of his policy and believe obstruction contributed to much of it not being done correctly, but once in office he seemed to lose focus.

We have much to dislike about President Trump, but there is real change. I hope it is for the better.

Admittedly I most likely agree with some of his agenda that we could talk about in person (maybe over some drinks) but what the heck is the deal with people openly wanting things to fail just because he is such a prick and elected as a Republican?

I really think it was hope and change that got him elected on the first place and with a tremendous amount of stupid shit, he has done a ton better than anyone expected. Not that all is right,(another face to face with many more drinks) but the stuff right has been good.

Very true. I have one brother that is very conservative and another liberal. I have always been moderate, now believe I would be mostly libertarian with conservative lean. The debates and discussion we have are fantastic.

Too many times in politics it goes from policy and solutions to personal attack. The absolute worse is when it goes to excusing current issue with saying well the other guy did it. Like now with the kids on the border, this has been going on for 4 years I don't give a crap, protect the kids from human trafficking, take care of them and FIX IT!

It appears to me that a lot of people on this site cannot debate any point, instead they revert to personal abuse with those who have a different opinion. It's really not worth trying to engage with them they don't have the mental dexterity to participate in a meaningful discussion.

@iagreed Thats when you know they've lost, if they have to resort to defamation of character then they've admitted they have nothing else logical to say. Those people need people like yourself to have a reference as to how much they have to learn.
Some indeed are a lost cause, but maybe you'll be able to change a few minds even if they don't show it to save face. Just gotta stand by it and know there are people who appreciate it. Peace to you buddy ✌

Some people should just refrain from talking politics, as they can only cope with opinions that fit the narrative of their own little echo chambers. We all have different political beliefs. It's the most normal thing in the world.

@TheGreatLeveler I couldn't agree more. I know it comes from a place of emotion most of the time so i empathise to a degree, but unless we're willing to honestly see both sides and take them into consideration, adding them to our own knowledge then we cannot have a discussion, just a shouting match.

@minarth008 I'm sorry your friend wasn't mature enough to listen to or entertain a differing opinion 😔 this is why this needs to change, it's literally ruining friendships and probably families in a lot of cases. We need balance, and we need to be more open towards one another in those terms.
