Has to be Depeche Mode, though I like their 90s stuff better. From the late 80s onwards, they went in a rock tinged goth direction. But much better that the actual goth bands:

@HairbrushDiva I’ve seen her live twice - once with Yazoo in the 80s, and then completely by surprise a couple of years ago as she was supporting Tears For Fears. She was bloody good both times.
