Do you have records collection and what carriers?

I have vynils, audio cassettes and compact discs. I love to play those the old school way. mp3 or Spotify is always there, but there's nothing like the dust on your vynil or rewinding an audio cassette manually with a pen.

I'm closing in on 2000 records. I'd have more, but I throw a lot of them back if I don't like them. I think there's a difference between a collector and a hoarder, though. I know people with 8000+ records who just play the numbers game and keep everything. I'd rather have 2000 records I enjoy and will listen to again instead of a mountain of records that I likely won't.

@SW-User I just went to a Jethro Tull concert this evening. Was fascinated by the music, but Ian Anderson's voice is really bad.

In this matter some new bands are better than the old ones. But that's regarding writing new music and playing live only. Although it is not always true.

Royal Republic are quite fun! Did you hear Greta Van Fleet?

@veghard Jethro Tull is one of the two bands responsible for my addiction. When I was 6, my dad bought "Songs from the Wood" and Kiss's "Rock and Roll Over" the same day. When he played those two records, my head almost exploded. I taught myself how to run the big stereo, so I could listen to them over and over again. The first money I ever earned for chores went to buy Kiss Alive II, and I've owned records ever since.

I like bands that wear their influences on their sleeves. (The Wildhearts come to mind.). My issue with GVF is that I only hear one single influence, which is obviously Zeppelin. I've tried to get into them, but I just can't. They definitely have some chops, but they need to expand beyond what they're doing and allow other influences to come through.

@SW-User You obviously are a meloman! I'd be happy to speak to you more on here. I will write you some time, if that's OK, to get to know more about tastes.
I have an old Luxman deck plugged to a wharfdale amp, Ferrograph reel-reel,Sony U-matic, Beta's and a cheap DVD and VHS players.

@EugenieLaBorgia what do you listen to on these bad boys?
@veghard The vinyls have always been instantly recorded on to the reel-reel tapes - preserves the discs and there is no tonal loss either. Mostly classical music, some jazz, motown, etc.

I have over 300 albums on vinyl, mostly from the '60's and early 70's.

I told my son to try and sell them and we will split the money.

Most of the cassette tapes I had were ones I recorded from my own vinyl.

@veghard I don't even have a stereo anymore. I bet the last 15 years before I gave it away, I used it less than 10 times.

Blame YouTube. 90% of what I want to listen to I can find on YouTube. The rest is usually on Vimeo.

Less hassle.

@eli1601 what genres are there in your collection
eli1601 · 70-79, M
Mostly classic rock. The most numerous artists would be The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Jethro Tull, Mountain, The Doors, Allman Bros. etc

Eit to add : Zappa
Yes. I still have the 45s and lps I collected growing up, plus some 78s from my grandfather’s collection.

In my next life I will get reborn back in the 20s and live for 200 years and live the whole musical evolution.

@veghard Just start in New Orleans and work your way up the river to Memphis. Then, head east to Nashville before heading up to Chicago and Detroit. I took a road trip from Chicago to Memphis to New Orleans to Nashville, and for me, it was a trip through the holy land.

Ahhh... You see, I live (and was born) in a post-communist Eastern European country. This still is... well... a real holy grail here. Terra Incognita. The mysterious cities of gold. And other euphemisms of that sort :D
