Who here hasn't heard of Tom Petty?

So, there are few people I've met who don't know who he was. I am a little stunned when they say they don't know who he is, but I have to remind myself that the new generations are used to the new age music...though it doesn't feel that long ago that Tom Petty was on the top of the charts. He was my favorite rock star, and known for writing some of the greatest lyrics/first lines of all time. It's hard not to know who he is, unless you live under a rock, or just like a certain genre. If you are someone who likes music, I recommend being open to the older genres/bands/stations that got your popular generations of today started. You'd also be surprised who their idles and inspirations are. They all have them.

He was an amazing musician. Rip Tom😢

@Fernie Was it his music or his personality that makes you dislike him? We get you didn't care for him, but dang! If you're going to keep shoving it on this feed then I will have to say you are disrespecting him after he is dead. I liked the people you mentioned, but what makes them better?

@PoisonLace disrespecting him after he is dead??? are you serious? Was he god or something? He was a musician like any other musician...I didn't like his style, I never liked heavy metal either,or country, not a Hendrix fan...I was a folk music lover in the 60's and well into the 70's and even now. People like what they like and I gotta tell ya...you are taking this all waaay too personally and sounding a bit nutty

@Fernie Actually, no. Disrespecting anyone who is dead is bad karma, and I was going to let it go because everyone has their own opinions (you have a right, but my point is to not say it more than once) about music until you decided for a second time to voice in another comment what you had already said in a different way...but with more of an insulting remark that you were sad over Joplin (rocker), Winehouse (Soul, Rythm&Blues, Jazz etc.)--two 27-year-olds that didn't have half the experience that Tom Petty did (he was one of the few people who took on the music industry and record companies and won all the rights to his music) because they both died of overdoses before they could make an even bigger impact (that they should have) on the world, and Carlin (who has nothing to do with music), but not Petty. But that's okay because his genre meant nothing to you so it's fine not to be sad about it. ;) And wow, I've never met a bird who didn't like Hendrix, but whatever floats your boat! ---Oh, and it's not that I'm nutty (I take that as a huge insult), it's that I'm a fan who saw him as a person and not just a musician. This is the only post that I've made about him, so it's not like I've preached all over my page and worship him like a god. You make it seem as though I do, but you don't know me at all.

You'd have to be quite a knob-head to be unaware of who Tom Petty was.

@Mustermann He was that amazing.

Interesting
Fernie · F
Never cared for him
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@Fernie You may not like his music, but he did a lot for the music industry and was a businessman in his own right.

@PoisonLace let it go
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@Fernie Gladly!
Is he a Tennessean?
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@jjoe01 lol...
@PoisonLace i was kidding.... Lol
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@jjoe01 You started to worry me there! :D
I know a few people who aren’t interested in rock music who don’t know who he was. But that’s about it.
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard They're just not open. :p So sad.
@PoisonLace Not necessarily. It just wasn’t their genre. Phife Dawg died last year, and chances are people who don’t follow old school rap didn’t know who he was.
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard Heard of him, but of course, I have heard of a lot of people. My musical background is pretty diverse. Some people I have not heard of, but it really depends on where they came from in the time line.
