Maybe consider joining a regular group that practices a craft or some form of creativity (book club, amateur theater, life drawing, music band), or a charity that does voluntary work in the community.

@ClanNaFiacaillApWythe Sorry. I meant to imply that being a part of groups that share common interests is an excellent way to meet like-minded people and develop very close friendships. That's one of the benefits of my poetry and writers' groups.
