Why is it that two of Ewan Mcgregors roles are a drug addict and a Lightsaber wielding force powered freak?

One is the result of the other. His drug induced hallucinations are himself as a jedi

I suspect because in the first he was young and keen to make a name for himself.
The second because he wanted to be associated with a 'brand'.

He's not an addict. He chose life.

People who choose life are strong with the force.
