Watching movies on a rainy day.

Yesterday was a beautifully grey day as the clouds cast their cover. The rain was trying out its two main voices: a whisper, then a roar, then whispering again and back to the roar.
Putting errands to the side I decided to watch movies and the only choice that went along with the sound around me was movies featuring music.

I started off with "The T.A.M.I. Show". If you're familiar with it I don't have to go any further. However for those of you unfamiliar (or maybe need a refresher) this is credited as being the first concert film for the rock era crowd. Abbreviated for either "Teenage Awards Music International" or "Teen Age Music International" depending on one's perspective the movie was culled from two shows filmed in October 1964 at Los Angeles' Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
Who's performing in this 123-minute show? Get ready for this lineup!
In order of appearance you have The Beach Boys; Chuck Berry; Gerry and The Pacemakers; Smokey Robinson and The Miracles; Marvin Gaye; Lesley Gore; Jan and Dean; Billy J. Kramer and The Dakotas; The Supremes; The Barbarians; James Brown and The Flames; and The Rolling Stones. On a side note Keith Richards said one of the biggest mistakes The Stones ever made was following JB because no matter what they did they couldn't top his show. Among the dancers on the set were actress Teri Garr and choreographer Toni Basil: yes THAT Toni Basil who had the 1982 hit "Mickey". The house band were The Wrecking Crew featuring Hal Blaine on drums, Glen Campbell on guitar, and Leon Russell on piano.

After having lunch and doing a bit of reading I wanted to watch another concert film. Like I said "The T.A.M.I. Show" was from 1964. Fast forward five years and we have "Woodstock". I don't have to go any further do I? It was funny when the part came up where the crowd's shouting "no rain no rain no rain" - I'm sitting thinking "Yeah keep shouting...I'm digging the rain myself".

How fascinating it was to see the changes in music and fashion within the span of half a decade. That was my day.
