I Believe Women Should Obey Their Husbands

well this is what my mom says and she even read it to me in the bible about the husband being the head of the family and i guess she means it too because she does things his way all the time.

many people both christian and non takesout of context. here is the full text taken from the king james version

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband
ephesians 5:22-33 out of context.
it tells women to obey and to submit to their husband who is to love and protect his wife just as christ does the church. in other parts of the new testament it says that women are neither to teach or be leaders in the church. so therefore a female ran home cannot be christian neither can a church who has female pastors or deacons.

I'm a Christian myself, so please don't take this the wrong way. The Bible itself doesn't teach fear, but a lot of really selfish and ignorant people use the words of the Bible to justify poor behavior.

I live in a very conservative place in the United States. When I meet men who talk about wanting to live the way "intended" in the Bible, what they're really saying is that they want a woman that will take care of them, agree with them, and never argue. They want a woman that will do what she's told, as though she were a child, and one that they can discipline as a child. They want a woman that will give away everything that she has that is human, and do so quietly, so that they themselves can have a healthy social life, good work life, and come home to a clean house and orderly world that revolves around them.

I firmly believe that that is not what is intended in the Bible, and it is not appropriate anymore in our society. Nevertheless, I've seen men teaching young boys and little girls that this is the way things should be, because "God says so."

Yes, the Bible does say that the man is head of the woman. It also tells the man that he is to love his wife as Christ loves His people. And He died for us. Too many people pull one part out of a scripture and conveniently leave the rest.

Can't half tell that a man wrote the bible. I'm not going to diss the bible or ways others do marriage but I think that is such a misguided way to live. I certainly would not want to be with someone that expects me to just obey them

nexo:

You're assuming my husband orders me around and that I have no say in things. he asks me my opinion and sometimes goes by it, sometimes not. Just as when i have to get something done i ask his opinion then sometimes go by it and sometimes not. A marriage isn't 50/50 after all. It's 110 and 110. Just because we have house rules doesn't mean i don't have a say in things. I don't know what kind of examples you've had in life but to throw away marriage is just sad. But this is a world of all kinds of people and if that's what you like, of course your choice. I do hope you find the right woman tho.
CherryBombBetty · 41-45, F
That's why my husband and I talked for ages about our marriage before we agreed to be married. Marriage isn't for the weak, especially Biblical marriages.

It also seems like different people lied about things jesus said to suit their beliefs. Like at one point he is actually saying actual good things like loving everyone, but then there's taking out your eye if you look at a woman with lust - something your god created you to have and you have absolutely no control over. Why am I discussing this, these conversations are pointless.

But Women should not obey their husbands as if they are inferior, woman are wonderful and I don't care if you don't think so.
Nightshade · 36-40, F
XNexoX - It really doesn't work that way. You get forgiveness in return for sincerity. If a serial-killing sociopath in SINCERE in wanting forgiveness from God, SINCERE in his wish for atonement, then he may be forgiven. You are not "saved" just because you get some pastor to say you are. Unfortunately, I think even a lot of Christians forget that point and just use their church membership card as a free pass to be complete douchebags in society.
XNexoX · 31-35, M
The whole "going to hell unless you accept jesus as your savior" is used to scare people. At least in the old testament, if you did evil things you went to hell, but with this new testament, some awful criminal can just "give himself to jesus" and then everything is A-OK, making the goofy religion even more nonsensical than it already was.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
It is very true a Christian marriage is that way
XNexoX · 31-35, M
I don't actually plan on getting married. Don't you believe couples should obey each other? Do you really want to obey a man's every word and never have an opinion of your own? If so, well that's entirely your business, but I just hope you don't judge others for not wanting all women to obey men completely.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
Right cherry that's what my stepdad reminds jake
XNexoX · 31-35, M
If that is the case, the book really should have made it more clear. Still, there is the belief that even if you are a good person but don't have "jesus in your heart" then you will go to hell. That is not something any sane and decent person believes.
XNexoX · 31-35, M
Good job on not getting too annoyed with me about dissing your religion though cherry - that was actually one of the good jesus lessons so kudos for that. I should have been more levelheaded like Plum rather than going into a rant.
CherryBombBetty · 41-45, F
I'm used to it. People chaffe at the thought of God so accordingly they'll chaffe at me for believing. That's life. The Christ preached to prostitutes and tax collectors and laid down truth but He allowed their free will to take it from there once He moved on.
XNexoX · 31-35, M
lol living by the bible is living in fear. It's no way to live. teechme is still very young so she may wake up from this nonsense... not sure about cherrybomb, will most likely be living like this till her grave. Sad stuff.
CherryBombBetty · 41-45, F
Well nexo, i hope you and your wife are quite happy. Every marriage runs in its own way, even ways a person isn't used to.
XNexoX · 31-35, M
By the way Nightshade, that response before that one was directed at cherry
CherryBombBetty · 41-45, F
what fear is there in the Bible? New Testament freedom all the way.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
Right cherry we hear obiedance in church from early age
