I Dreamed A Dream

I dreamed we were still in the EU and none of the Brexit has happened. We were a big family where Polish people brought their skiils and their families. And Welsh students could go freely to work in the Med. Oh please let us vote. We couldn’t back then. You wouldn’t let us!

Everyone of voting age had the right to vote.
@Quizzical Perhaps she wasn’t of age then.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard Well, that's just tough luck, lol
WelshGirl · 22-25, F
You are right. I was 15. And really wanted to vote. @bijouxbroussard
WelshGirl · 22-25, F
No. Because we are leaving EU now. The vote was so close that many Leavers have died. Many Remainers can now vote. @Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@WelshGirl You don't get to keep re-voting until you get the result you want... 🙄

That's just not how it works.

And don't you think that perhaps those older 'leavers' who have now died might possibly have had a little more of an understanding and wisdom about the EU and life before it than a 15 year old schoolgirl?

@Quizzical so who could not vote because of there age , going by welshgirl we should have vote every 2 years , so when they reach 18 they can vote
WelshGirl · 22-25, F
But the vote was so close and we are now and they were then! If it was 70% remain ok. But it was soooo close. And we can vote now. And I am not a silly little schoolgirl. I read the Economist every wedk on the bus. @Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@WelshGirl I didn't say you were silly... I am just saying that the older generations had actual experience of living outside of the EU, something that you could never have had experience of.

And it doesn't matter how close a vote is, the majority wins, even it's just by one person. That's how democracy works.
WelshGirl · 22-25, F
But 49.9% against 51,1% leads mathematically to civil war! You want that in the country you love! We live in Cromwellian times, do we not? @Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@WelshGirl If this were a General Election no-one would have an issue with such a close result.

The majority won, simple as that.

You can't have re-vote after re-vote until YOU get the result you want.

You think I wanted the Conservatives in power yet again? Of course not!

But, I had my vote, my party didn't win, and I have to abide by the majority decision.

It's exactly the same with Brexit.

Sometimes things don't go the way you would want, and frankly I think the remainers who are stalling things and petitioning for more voting are being incredibly childish.
WelshGirl · 22-25, F
Brexit is not « exactly the same. » This is splitting a country asunder. I want to remain. I also want to remain in the UK. But if the UK is not in the EU then I want to leave the UK too. @Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@WelshGirl Well, you are quite free to go. No-one is stopping you.
WelshGirl · 22-25, F
We cannot be free. I hope we may be! @Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@WelshGirl I'm hoping we become free of being a piggy-bank to the EU
WelshGirl · 22-25, F
Not really. I live in a place where the EU has helped us get over the closure of the mines. @Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@WelshGirl The mines would not have needed to be closed if were not importing coal at a much cheaper price from abroad...
WelshGirl · 22-25, F
I know. But can we not have a world where we help each other? What is wrong with my country producing coal and water and wind power. While others produce bananas and pineapples? Why does it have to be about poitics? The air is free. The water is free. The land should be but it isn’t. @Quizzical
