I Am Artistic and Creative

Mount Holly ,New Jersey ... I'm in first grade,Its the last week of school and the beginning of summer time. The world is so beautiful. My little life is so happy.I AM SO HAPPY .
I have to walk home from school .Just four blocks .18 Mitchel Terace is my house.A lot of classmates walked the same route. There was something different today ahead of me as I walked. Children laughing! Something fun! I ran toward the excitement ahead ! I ran with such anticipation I was out of breath ,and could only pant with my hands on my knees ,my long strate hair hung foward over my head as I caught my breath ,sucking gulps of air.....looking straight down at the grass .trying to regain the the strength to stand upright.....And see what all the exciement was about.
There was such excitement growing in the whirlwind of my periphery, still dizzy and out of breath I lifted my little face at last, and my little arms parted the way as I moved forward into the growing crowd like I was walking threw a tall field of corn..........And then I saw it.

It was Evette. The new girl. She was in sixth grade. They knocked her books out of her arms ....,her papers scattered and her lunchbox was smashed, I remember that on the street. They were calling names I never heard before...kite? What's a kite? I know what a kite is. It something my brother flys on a string! But they were saying Kike...and another word over and over ....and that word was "Jew". Terrified, I ran and followed the procession from the safety behind the houses liing the street walking along .....my little eyes wide with fear....concerned only with with my own safety.....I was only in first grade.....I began to cry. Why won't some body help her? They are so scary looking..... ...these kds from 6 to 12th grade. So big ! Lunchbox torn from her I remember her thermos,,the glass inside it shattered.... bright shining shards of it at her feet. And she was crying , just standing there, crying in place , her arms crossed against her chest as if she was still clutching her books ,her eyes closed, chin down ,tears running.
I couldn't watch anymore. I threw myself face down between an air conditioning unit and this little space behind the houses. I shut my eyes tight and covered my ears with my little hands. It was a hot day and the drone of the air conditioner and my hands blocked out the terrible sounds . White noise,wirring....I couldn't hear any thing but that. But I could still here my heart pounding ,the pulsing throbbing of the blood pul in my my head. My house was two streets away....saftey.Ever have a dream where your so scared it's like your paralyzed? THIS IS NO DREAM...THIS REALLY HAPPENING ! I had to get home! I remembered something my my brother used to say to himself before his track meets."What are your legs? Steele springs! What are they going to do? Hurl me down the track! How fast are you going to run? As fast as a leopard! WELL LET'S SEE YOU DO IT THEN!" I sprung up like a baby Gazelle and ran straight into a monolithic wall of leather .Two roughly calloused hand seized me. Terrified, I did what a little girl does ,I sunk my teeth into one of the hands that grasped me .The hand did not let go.I bit down as hard as I could. Now I could feel the warm blood of my captor as it ran down my chin. Two powerful arms lifted me up as I kicked wildly and with all my courage I opened my eyes. I saw the most wonderful sight any one could ever see! The face of my brother! With a smile he said " Could you please stop biting my hand now?"

Part 3 ...."A Hero Falls”.

He said " Are you hurt?" Realizing the blood on my chin I said "No thats your blood....bbbutt ...bbut" I could only blubber "The girl!" as I pointed toward the street. "i know about the girl,You got your key?" he asked. I nodded yes."Good, now stay behind the houses and run straight home and lock the door." But....what are you going to do? "I wailed. My brother replied "Just do what I told you....I'll be by directly."

"Go!" he said and I Took off running as my brother turned and walked towards the street. Of course I didn't do what he said, I stopped at the next opening between the houses and hiding, watched my brother stride threw the crowd as he took off his leather jacket.( Who wears a leather jacket in summertime in 90 degree heat in New Jersey? Only my brother. Why? (Probably because it looks cool!) "Enough! It's over enough! No more! Get out of here!" he shouted at the crowd as he turned in a quick circle looking them in the face . Shamed... they separated into little groups and dispersed. There were adults by now standing on front porches. Together we watched my brother say something to Evette. She just nodded and my brother covered her head and shoulders with his jacket and began walking her home,,where ever that was.And then all at once every face was turned skyward....following in unison an object arching across the sky, like at a football game when the crowd follows the ball of a great last second desperate pass. I could see it was a rock...a big square rock about the size of a Rubics Cube.Walking Evette the other way,my brother never saw it coming. With a sickening hollow sound it hit my brother right on his ankle. You know that round bone that sticks out? That one. There was a sharp ,no ,more like shriek of outrage and pain.... and my brother and Evette together fell to the street.

part 4. "When going through hell, keep going."

Silence.Dead silence.Thats the way to describe it. Because it was only now that the watching adults ,at last stepping down from their front porches...as if they were never there....like ghosts.... slowly and as transparently as possible....as invisible as possible...as if cloaked in in a veil of their own shame.....moved towards Evette and my fallen brother .My brother must of heard them and their slow shuffling, because he stood up,I don't know how he did it because now Evette was clinging to him like a Koala bear hugging a tree both of her arms and legs rapped around him. He bent and grabbed up his leather jacket almost falling. Some of the adults stepped quickly forward..."NO! " my brother barked as he held up his arm the way a traffic cop stops a car with his hand.
