Does the presence of the military put your mind at ease, cause you to worry or are you indifferent to them existing at all?

I am certainly not indifferent. I wouldn't say their presence puts my mind at ease, because I always think about how young they are, (most of them still children), and about the possibility of their deaths, but I can say that when I think about their service, I am grateful.

My father was a recipient of the purple heart, and so was my Uncle. My grandfather served in TWO wars as did my father. I was very nearly NOT born when my father's plane was shot down. His whole crew died in POW camps.

My hobby is genealogy, and often I will find a young man with no information about his death.

When I research further, I usually find that he died during WWI or WWII, and his body was buried in the Philippines or in France. I make sure his rank is noted prominently on his genealogy chart, and I make sure that the descendents of his family know where he is buried and because the military notes it, I will chronicle the fact that he received the purple heart and/or the silver star.

I'm thankful to all the military men and women risking their lives to protect the freedom and rights of those I care about and my own and I will continue to do so while the land I'm in is considered a free country.

No. They shouldn't exist.
