I Am a Secular Humanist
Just a thought for those who say Religion is the source of all the evil in the world (and I'm not at all implying you are saying this, Cookie; like I said, it's just a thought), show me the great institutions of higher learning Atheism has built; where are the orphanages, hospitals, other charitable organizations that have sprung from the compassionate heart of Atheism?
Would this sad world really be better off without the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule?
A very brief answer:
First, Governments, especially in post-Christian Northern Europe, have built far better hospitals and orphanages and institutions of higher learning than any religious organization.
Second, I have had personal experience with Christian charitable organizations and found the vast majority of them to be scams that take advantage of the poor people they are suppose to be helping. This is anecdotal I know but it seems to be a common occurrence
Third, The relevant commandments, e.g. don't steal, murder, bear false witness are values every individual should hold regardless of religion. The others involve don't use god's name, don't make other gods and take Saturday off are self-serving and pointless
