@CheesePickle yup. And this evening when I got home ☺

@Cheesecake It is what we city dwellers seldom see, the hard graft in all weathers that farming entails, we see OH the sheep, what a great view LOL

@CheesePickle ah yes. Fair bit further north than us but an interesting chap - and the principles are the same ☺

@Cheesecake Yes he certainly put a good case, I thought the Welsh lamb going to Portugal and Spain whilst we imported from NZ shocking.

@CheesePickle according to my wife, an agricultural economics graduate, it's because of a longstanding Commonwealth deal to help the NZ farmers. What about our own? Yet another of those crazy historical commitments I guess .... 😕

@Cheesecake I have no knowledge of that, but do not doubt it. I think a lot is just the economics of cheap land and labour. The Lords Vestey started it back in the 50s I think with freezer ships and land in Australia. Then a move to the Argentine with Fray Bentos line. The meat was cheap as the cattle were bred for the hides. So many catering companies use impoted meats form dubious sources as the horse meat scandal showed.

@CheesePickle absolutely. Some things never change 😐

@Cheesecake As you say we should look after our own farmers, The imports are crazy, I saw carrots from Israel in Asda!! so much stuff from Holland chicken, veg, potato products and now Holland is so polluted they are culling cattle.

@CheesePickle good grief, whatever next!
CheesePickle · 41-45, C
@Cheesecake I have no doubt the veg from Israel is a politically manipulated course, And given the recent misuse of a pesticide in 1000s of chicken in Holland again suspect thier GOV is turning a blind eye to imports of chemicals. Happy that Monsanto draw the flack for GM crops. whilst others just ignore the laws and turn a swift dollar, euro or rouble
