Transgender Athletes

Is it fair for a male who is transitioning to female to compete as a female?
SW-User
It depends on how long she's been on testosterone blockers. If the levels of testosterone are still noticeably higher then no.
SW-User
@SW-User True. But women of different sizes have different bone density and/or muscle mass as well. So I'm not even taking this under consideration.
SW-User
@SW-User then you're denying basic science
SW-User
@SW-User Oh, shush. What I mentioned is also basic science but you don't seem to accept it either.

This assumes much. That being a male makes one a better athlete. That the male form is the desired athletic build. That men acting as women is a problem but women acting like men is just fine.

Is it fair? Depends on the person, depends on the competition, depends on the training levels. I've seen women kick ass at a martial arts competition. Archery, shooting, curling...many sports don't differentiate between the male and female form. And of those that do, I can show you plenty of examples of a wide, wide range of ability from top athlete to last in place.

@Graylight Even Golf differentiates, lol
Johnblackthorn · 56-60, M
No, it's an unfair advantage, most of the time.
If the transition was done before puberty it might make no difference though.
Miram · 31-35, F
Maybe if those they are competing against agree to it , and in the presence of evidence that their male muscle mass advantages disappeared after a year of hormonal therapy.

How about the two on the left?
Gravedigger · 46-50, F
That’s not cool@kyredhead
kyredhead · 41-45, M
@Gravedigger I feel awful for the females. Some at the top of their game. Competing for scholarships and getting smoked on the track.
Gravedigger · 46-50, F
@kyredhead I don’t like myself for seeing it the way I do, but...
I see it as someone who wants to do good in that sport and can’t compete against who they should be competing against... mark my words, there will be people who will “use” this to gain an upper hand and nothing more. 😢
lovingdead · 31-35, M
Depends on the sport, team probably not. One on one, and the other female agrees to it sure.
i'd say "No", to... though i accept that i don't have enough knowledge to make a concrete decision on this point.

There should be a separate competition for transgender individuals
pentacorn · F
if taking testosterone blockers, sure.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
No. The Sports Policy needs to be fair
Absolutely not fair at all.
gregloa · 61-69, M
