Yes, I've worked for both Major Auto Manufacturers in my area. Both jobs paid well to start, with the potential to make over 35 dollars an hour in the long run. The work is horribly strenuous, and the hours are very long for the type of work. So long in fact, you never know what time you are getting off of work until an hour before. There are little to no opportunities for advancement. So I just hate building cars for a living.
I left both jobs.

I'm a brine taster over at the pickle factory but I'd rather be an olive stuffer.

Yes when I left school I went to work on a farm, long hours, hard work low pay. i thought I would go and get a job at our local steelworks. nothing to do most of the day/night., played cards most of the day/night the pay was excellent 8 times more money than I got on the farm. Absolutely hated the job. Packed it in after 8 weeks and went back to the farm a job I loved.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Totally. The job sucked and continued to suck for thirty years. But it gave me back my family life and allowed me to put the time into my wife and children they deserved and the retiremebt benefits were to die for. So I bit the bullet and ploughed on.. And left without a backward glance..😷

I think that might be the life of the average American.

Most people don't graduate with a degree. Some do and still work in jobs like someone who hasn't graduated.

People get paid for being in unhappy situations.

Unless you're actually moving around constantly, it doesn't pay off.
The jobs that pay the most are often unhappy ones. Yes. Numerous ones even when starting out on my job path.
Hanginginthere · 31-35, M
@PoetryNEmotion im learning that the hard way
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Oh yes. Chased the magic dollar for years and hated it.
theoldschoola · 46-50, M
HCL America. DO NOT work there. They treat you like a slave.
JovialMoose · 46-50, M
Yes.

I guess since I've been in the workforce 25 years... I've been in all directions. I took a job and the manager was so toxic yet he knew I'd leave. So he gave me two 25% raises in two years. I stuck around for five years.

I took a decrease two years ago for a job with a better title and a walk to work. I've been super happy with my decision.
Torsten · 36-40, M
yeah, several. money is great and all. But im not going to be miserable every day due to it. Getting a much better job i enjoy for a slight pay decrease, is well worth it in my opinion and most the time when i have choose those jobs, i ended up quickly getting promoted and get a pay rise, so it always works out i think
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
Yes. I quit after 6 months. I don’t need money do bad that I’m prepared to do that crap for it.
Hanginginthere · 31-35, M
@Ceinwyn i think 6 months is plenty of time to give the job a chance im in a similar situation now
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@Hanginginthere I thought so. I just could be that drone that doesn’t 4 hours a day traveling to a role that didnt tick all the boxes.
wackidywack · 22-25

@Hanginginthere I only worked with that specific person every 3 weeks.
I also messed stuff up with the government (I registered how much I worked so they would pay me when I didn't) and got caught, so I thought I didn't have a choice. They threatened to report me to the cops if I didn't pay back the 10k I got illegally.
(A guy who works with the government gave me a 'tip' on how to alter my registered hours. It's a long story)
Hanginginthere · 31-35, M
@BarbossasHusband the irs dont play that XD
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
@Hanginginthere I could explain it to @ninalanyon in Norwegian, and have them explain the Norwegian wellfare system to you if you want.
