Rather than timeline, I would be subtle and ask if he had time to go over your application yet

That will get his attention on it without negative connotation and probably get it done sooner if not today

@th3r0n how would I phrase it? I'm not sure if asking if he'd been able to review my application is the best, because he has already seen my resume and cover letter (and so has everyone in the team I'll be working with). I submitted those same files just for a "formal" application.

@somedude15 in that case, the best might be "do you have a good estimate on when my start date will be?"

If he told you that you have the job, then you can ask when you start, and give your notice.

@allygator18 no not yet, only a verbal offer telling me they'd like to bring me on as soon as possible
