I'm a healthcare consultant.
Until 9 years ago I was an attorney.
I made the switch because I didn't feel the satisfaction of helping people as an attorney, as much as I did when I could help people as a healthcare consultant.

The world of lawyers felt like a fancy and exclusive club based on 19th century values.
It was more about bluff and nepotism than about truly serving humanity.
Justice was a vain word in that world.

I went back to college , studied a Bachelor of Nursing , An Associate's Degree of Public Health, a Master of Nutrition and finished with a Doctoral Degree in Healthcare.
I am now making real differences in people's lives by affecting the way they are treated. By making sure their needs are taken into account when proposing a treatment plan.

That is what I derive satisfaction from.

Over the years, I was a combat engineer for a while, we did demo work, mostly C4 and det cord. I worked for a short time on a strip mine blasting coal and other rock for excavation. Then I got into aviation and haven't looked back. I have 3 decades of aircraft maintenance under my belt at this point and a cushy job. I don't fix engines any more, I answer my phone and use my experience to help other mechanics fix engines.

Every once in a while when trying to get rid of a stump or some rock, I wish I was still involved with the demo work but not bad enough to get back into it.

@Roadsterrider I'm the new guy at the mines. I haven't done this for very long, but I'm loving the hell out of it.

@Arithmoman It is more dangerous than you think. Look at the guys that have done it for a while, Missing fingers, scars from burns, and keep in mind that they are the ones that lived. It is a fun job; it is cool to watch. Be safe, make sure the guy next to you is safe.
Interesting. Movies make people who work at such jobs crazy and impulsive, when I would expect them to behave as you describe.

Same as, "There are bold pilots and old pilots, but no old bold pilots."

@Mamapolo2016 The miners and blasting crew I work with are incredibly intelligent and professional. You're right about the movies. I hate movies like that, because I haven't met one yet like that. It's a dangerous job. There's no room for idiots.
@Arithmoman Let's hope you never do meet one like that.

Very interesting job description! I'm just an online representative for a legitimate company. I direct telecommunications traffic. Skills include computer proficiency and clear, professional speaking.

I work for a company that repairs mining equipment, specifically haul trucks, the largest ones in the world.

Healthcare and farming.

Reading your thread makes me feel that now I am on a special list.
Arithmoman · 31-35, M
@Miram What do you mean? I used to work in healthcare. I ran a group home for the mentally ill. I loved the clients, but the work environment was awful. Bad pay, bad people, bad management...
Miram · 31-35, F
@Arithmoman it is just bad attempt at dark humor

AN fertilizer putting certain people with specific backgrounds on watch lists can happen in periods of unrest.

Yes, it is not so fun dealing with the paperwork and navigating through collapsing healthcare systems
Arithmoman · 31-35, M
@Miram Oh, I understand. I used to work at a feed store. Buying ammonium nitrate fertilizer was a little complicated, thanks mostly to the bombing in Oklahoma.
