Sooo deserved

As I understand, United went by the book. They offered passengers to sell back their tickets for up to $1,000. There were no takers and United used the routine computer process to pick the passengers to remove from the flight. No favorites, no discrimination. The Doctor dug in his heels which led to a forced removal. The brouhaha delayed the flight by two hours causing other passengers to miss connecting flights as well as flights to be covered by dead-heading crew members. The good doctor by digging in his heels could likely have caused serious inconvenience to thousands of people.

Planes are overbooked for lots of reasons. Sometimes then have an airplane weight situation, or have to make an equipment substitution at the last moment. A weather delay in San Francisco could turn into a crew shortage or equipment substitution in Louisville.

I think the Doctor should be arrested. He was directed by the airline personnel and security guard to deplane and he refused.

best understanding of that bad situation

No surprise. I have to correct something I posted earlier. Apparently they did ask for volunteers initially. Doesn't excuse what they did though.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
I am shocked. What ever happened to true outrage? Should have been 30%.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
It's not over yet...
mrmoose · 70-79, M
that's all?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
not over yet
mrmoose · 70-79, M
@cherokeepatti: people will fly other airlines, and the stock will drop more
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@mrmoose: They are the worst airline I've ever used, bottom of the list....this only reinforces my memory and vow not to fly on their planes, surprised that they've lasted this long.
Sonnet · 41-45, F
I'm surprised it's not more to be honest.
GlassDog · 46-50, M
Not entirely surprised, no.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
I never fly the unfriendly skies.
Not really. But in a week, this will all be forgotten about. And stocks and futures will recover.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I've never forgotten my flight with them, lousy service.
@cherokeepatti: The last time I flew was 1974 and that was with TWA. So the airlines get none of my money. I just know how short the memories of many.
mrmoose · 70-79, M
their service is so bad, the best thing they did for me was when i took a voluntary bump, and they put me on a different airline
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Me too, and what's even better was that I got to my destination about 30 minutes earlier than I would have on their flight.
mrmoose · 70-79, M
@cherokeepatti: me too!
Nope. Wonder what really happened though. Who is really at fault.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
You think maybe the airlines for overbooking the flights? They sell those tickets for more $ than the many of the people who book early get theirs for, shouldn't matter though.
@cherokeepatti: That's messed up then.
I really hope they don't go under I still have a travel voucher from them to use.

I just heard this on the news. I think i would be belligerent too if they wanted to give my seat to a staff member.

gee couldn't imagine why
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
Doesn't surprise me at all. That was horrible.
Socialclutz · 36-40, M
I wish them the worst business and hope they fail as a company
