My introduction to addiction was as a teething infant to relieve pain. At that time it was common to apply Paregoric to the painful gums. Available at any drug store by an adult asking for a bottle.
Paregoric: Camphorated tincture of Opium, a traditional patent medicine known for it's analgesic properties as well as many other maladies requiring homeopathic medication. Recovering from alcohol is one day at a time, some days it's one minute at a time.

I've struggled with many addictions in my life. When I was young, it was drugs. Then coffee. And certain foods. Now I have an addiction to a guy...it's called Limerence. The only way to recover from an addiction is cold turkey.

Only to cigarettes. I stopped smoking though and switched to vaping. It's not the same as being nicotine free, but it's harm reduction.
