A friend of mine passed not too long ago, and not long after that I had a dream of him. I was at an outdoor banquet near the ocean. It was sunset, the golden hour. All around me were people I knew or had known. A DJ was playing music. One song ended and then Fleetwood Mac’s “As Long As You Follow” began to play. Before I could give any of this much thought my deceased friend David appeared by the entrance. My jaw unhinged and I just stared as he walked through the casual din, saying hello, shaking hands, hugging people and he finally was within earshot. He looked like his old self, but calm, relaxed. His pupils looked like there were twin candles burning deep within. I stuttered: “David! You….but you…you’re…where did you go??” And he laughed and said, “I really can’t say since I just arrived. But so have you. You just don’t know it yet because all of this is outside of Time. That’s why our lives seem like an eye blink.” Then I woke up. And I wasn’t sad. In fact I was relieved. He was home. And a day will come when my eye blink ends and I know that I too will follow.
