@Tonyv I would get to that point in the relationship where your comfortable talking about that kind of stuff. When your ok with your body functions with each other its time to ask. A lot of us are very sensitive about that we are pre op or post op. A lot have major dysphoria about what's on our pelvis (MTF and FTMs) For me i don't care people can ask, yes im pre op and ill be post op in 2 years. Its all in your tact and trust in your relationship.
