Parents can't teach kids that. They have to teach themselves. Sometimes parents just need to back off and let their kids do what they will

@emilyBM Well said!

Your question made me think of a day when I was 7 and my two older brothers were 9 & 11. They persuaded me to stand still barefoot on the wooden porch floor and let them see how close they could shoot darts (the pointy kind) at my feet. The result of the experiment was ‘too close.’ My mother came in response to my screams to find me with a big toe pinned to the floorboard and my two brothers waiting for a just death. They didn’t even get a spanking although my parents spanked for egregious offenses. They got scolded and had their darts taken away. I got a band-aid and a talking-to from Mom and later Dad about being gullible. Unfortunately the gullibility speeches didn’t do much and I still am gullible.

Today my brothers would have been given lifetime subscriptions to serial killer counseling and I would have been put in a bubble suit for my own protection.

@Mamapolo2016 Lol a lot has changed, that's true

Parents & teachers both are neglecting studies in common decencies, behavior, the value of life, morals, ethics, citizenship, and tolerance.

Parents have forgotten to teach their kids much of anything and the schools are teaching them to need closets to avoid reality.

Can that be taught?
SuperMom · 51-55, F
@Redzygirl No, I suppose not. I think @emilyBM put it well with her comment. You can create the space for kids to develop it.

@SuperMom I was gonna say if you know how teach me, so I can teach my kids

Seems many don't teach them much now, except to cater to their whims
