@FreeSpirit1 Unless I'm mistaken I think Obama went through the WTO and G-20. It wasn't the U.S. acting alone.

@Ynotisay China brought it to the WTO which is how it works. Same thing will happen to any tariffs imposed by Trump that they don't agree with.

@FreeSpirit1 Right. But the Obama administration was working with the WTO to impose restrictions on China. This is different. And it could take years for the arbitration anyway. In the meantime, if I understand it correctly, (and I'm NO expert on the WTO) I believe countries could impose their own tariffs to "make up the difference." I think it falls under what they call "retaliation." I just don't see this as a financial move. It doesn't add up and it's clearly not about the steel industry.

@Dlrannie Yeah. And there's a lot the U.S. could do to harm China as well. Either way, a trade war between the U.S. and China extends FAR beyond just those two countries.
