Why are lions depicted so much in European stuff?

For example "the British lion" and Norway's Coat of Arms... Lions aren't in Europe, so why are there so many lions??

Maybe lions once ranged further north. I really don't know.

From Wiki

Lions inhabited parts of Europe during the Holocene and even historic times and formed a subspecies called Panthera leo europaea. They lived in ancient Rome, ancient Greece, southern Russia, coastal parts of Saudi Arabia, and western Asia including: Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. It is also suggested by historical evidence, although not certain, that they lived in Portugal, Spain, southern parts of France, Italy, and the Balkans beyond Greece.

It's thought many were in the Northern Hemisphere at one time.
Possible also that the Romans may have brought some with them when they invaded many northern countries as a show of strength.
probably lots of theories but i doubt we'll ever really know.
Maybe because of what lions stand for. Power. Perhaps a name that involves lions gives power, or makes the person who invented a lion-isa name for a product feel like it will sell better, because of a 'powerful' name. ;)

Symbol of strength. Ironically, it's the females that hunt and raise young.

They're still the King of Beasts wherever you are. The lion depicts bravery in heraldry...
