What are some things from the 80s that kids today would freak out about?

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
When my daughter was in grade school in the 80's they could walk home from grade school by themselves...now children aren't allowed to leave the building unless an approved parent or pick-up person (has to be on the list and they have to had a school card with the child's name on it) is there, or unless they ride a school or daycare bus. That freaked me out, I'm raising a child and when I first heard this I thought "What the hell?" but they are doing it to protect the children.

My 2 best friends and I rode our bicycles everywhere. We even rode them over to my best friends grandparents once.

@MasterDvdC: Haha when I lived in Nebraska we lived a few miles from town and on really nice spring days after a cold winter we'd tell the bus driver to drop us off a mile or two before our scheduled stop and he would, we'd walk with our farm neighbor's kids all the way home, and nobody made a fuss because we were late either. But things are different with these child custody cases and it seems like there are more child abductions...never heard of it anywhere I lived when I was a kid.

When I was growing up the only time we locked our door was when we were going away for the weekend. Milk was delivered to our door by the milkman. The paperboy came around once a month to collect for the paper and if you didn't have the money, or the parents weren't there, they would come back.

@Darkrose02: Oh hogs can be blood-thirsty sometimes. My uncle always fed them meat scraps at least once a week on account of it. My aunt used to wear a shirt-waist dress in the 60's and she went to feed the hogs one morning and a mama hog came charging at her, she hopped over the fence but the hog grabbed her dress and the skirt of it got ripped plum off...she had to walk back to the house wearing the top half of her dress...good thing there were no neighbors in site of our farm.

Credit card machines were manual. Carbon copy.
No scanner at the check out.

Yeah and I remember my mom having a store account and they would manually use this massive machine to roll through the clients to get to the credit available on the store account for each customer.
