What is your most hated cliché?

Mine is: Everything happens for a reason.

What bullshit!
Tatsumi · 31-35, M
Gah my recall is shit. Lemme see. Oh yeah. Definitely. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Really? So getting shot 5 times in the head and surviving makes you stronger? I once knew a guy who shot himself. Lost a good portion of the left side of his brain. Could barely control the right side of his body, could barely speak, and had huge emotional issues. Didn't make him stronger.

Getting 5 different types of cancer makes you stronger? That's something i really dislike. And the idea that adversity develops strength. Yes. At the right levels, it does. But if it's *too much* adversity, it just cripples.
Tatsumi · 31-35, M
@Meowsolini: Rawr.
Yes. True. But if you overcome that crippling, that's strength.
Tatsumi · 31-35, M
@Umile18: Yes, but not as a result of the adversity.
There's plenty of fish in the sea.

So many reasons I hate this one
SW-User
Yes, but a lot of those fish are SHARKS!
Pfuzylogic · M
Isn't that a dating app? POF?
SW-User
I agree with you on that one. Sometimes it makes me want to punch people in the throat when they say that to me. I also hate the when one door closes another one opens. NO sometimes all the freaking doors close and you are left out in the cold and there isn't always something better waiting.

Precisely!
The truth will set you free.

Where to start?! The list is long, but I'll go with...

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"
SW-User
Yeah, that one makes me nuts!
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
How about "The Librarian will go easy on you if your books are overdue"??? 😜
Magenta · F
Sshhh...🤓 😇

😘
Pfuzylogic · M
It is Karma.
Pfuzylogic · M
@Umile18:
In order for me to accept it as truth it has to have a basis of origin.
I just can't accept sayings.

Hence, I mentioned it here.
@Pfuzylogic: Fair enough.

Understandable.

Some need facts.

Some can go by religion, superstition or culture.

To each his own.
Pfuzylogic · M
@Umile18:

If I believe in something I need to know where it comes from.

Too many cults pitching their wares to believe in just anything, soz.

"Do what you love and the money will follow".

It really won't.
rckt148 · 61-69, M
it is better to have loved and lost then to have never known love at all .
or if you love someone set them free ,if it was meant to be they'll come back .
I hate both ,if all she wanted was to make me into someone else why didn't she just go find them and leave me be ?
My heart loves deep and I do not know how to un-love people , my heart is not a toy .
But I have learned one thing ,Never say I can't live without you ,she will prove to you that you can ,though 2 did come close to killing me .
I spend years trying to figure out where I messed up so I don't repeat the same mistakes .
But sadly today were all damaged goods ,its hard to find someone who is not trying to make you pay for all the baggage they brought with them ,
and God knows I have my own
Teirdalin · 31-35
It is what it is.

Obviously it is what it is, what the heck else would it be?!

Penguin == Penguin

!Penguin =/= Penguin

fml.
Guess this comment is for me then huh? To each his own. I still think it's hot.
SW-User
True!
I actually use that expression as a last resort ... LOL. When someone keeps hacking away at a situation, when there is NO way that anything will change it, then it is what it IS is ultimately the final answer.
SW-User
What you see is what you get or shit happens
The first one I love.
adshaw · 36-40, M
Well of course everything happens for a reason. If there wasn't a cause there'd be no effect. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" would be my choice. Polio, clinical depression, that skin condition where you grow lots of lumps over your body and being traumatized by abuse don't make you stronger.
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
Well Meow, everything DOES happen for a reason, just not necessarily a good or sensible one!!! 😉
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
@Meowsolini: hahahaha. Actually no to all... you make me sound like Jack Benny
SW-User
@Ambroseguy80: 😁

Wait, can I change my initial answer?
"Yeah, I know it looks broke but that's how they all look"
[Someone who knows that you have is broke but can't bring themselves around to be honest with you]

"Don't worry; sit down and have a coffee"
[... As you worry about your dog at the Vet's undergoing surgery]

"There will be plenty of time for that when you get older"
[Someone who, for some reason, can't find it in themselves to tell someone what they're doing is wrong]

"I don't know where you got that from!"
[Someone telling you that the person you said who told you is either invisible or a figment of your imagination]

"Money doesn't grow on tree's, you know!"
[But, isn't paper a by-product of wood?]

@Ambroseguy80: Well there's the rich over-privileged kids on youtube showing off their new fancy cars every day.
Pfuzylogic · M
Sad thing is that some people think that comes from the Bible!
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
@Pfuzylogic: exactly!!! You won't find that anywhere in the Bible.
Unlearn · 41-45, M
It's convenient to believe so...
Malingermind · 51-55, M
Yeah, that one really get's to me as well.
Yeah, I definitely agree. Most things have direct and indirect causes, but otherwise life is pretty random. 🤔
SW-User
Right!
