I Have Memories That Give Me A Sense Of Nostalgia

All social media has been slowly going downhill over the years - meaningful connections have been slowly replaced by a texting mentality where nothing real is said. I was around in the early days of EP when every comment had at least a small potential to spark a real discussion. Nowadays SW is more like Facebook (though not as bad), and Facebook is more like... a more Facebook-y Facebook. It's just the nature of things lately - real meaning, authenticity, opinions, passion, and vigorous discussion are looked down on more and more often, and things like politeness, kindness, political correctness and unilateral non-judgement and support have become the values of the day. Most of the new values aren't such bad things, at least when people don't take them too far... but I can't help but feel sad for what we've lost.

I absolutely agree with this. In the earlier times of the internet when things like message boards existed they actually embraced and encouraged real discussion. That was more true with EP earlier on. Now anymore it's dissolving into meme sharing and inane comments that mean nothing. Communication is more about blowing hot air than really saying something of value. It bothers me too. An occ silly post here and there is one thing, but balance it with good stuff too.

Politeness the value of the day? You sure you're on the same website?

@BlueDiver: Well this website did start as a support group. I agree that people have a problem with criticism though. Ironically it's often the same people who are constantly complaining about how people should recognise their obvious superiority though.
I try to stick with the pleasant subject matter, but damn if it doesn't feel good to prick a few people's egos once in a while. That's the real reason I come here.

Yeah, I'm sure it makes me a bad person, but it does feel nice sometimes to tell someone the truth, even when I know that all it'll do is poke their ego.

@BlueDiver: Nah, sometimes people need to hear things. I try to say it as sideways as possible unless they directly attack me though. I don't feel like people are bad, just daft sometimes.
