Is putting yourself first selfish or neccessary?

Both, but sometimes being selfish is absolutely necessary.

If it has to do with your health and well being, then i think it's necessary. If it has to do with possessions and wealth, then it might be unnecessary.

No, it depends on the situation and how you mean it. In general you should always put yourself first because that is the way you better yourself and your situation so that you can be in a position to do for others as well the better you are doing in life. Now if/when you find a person that you love (bf,gf, spouse,children etc....) then putting yourself first in certain situations could be an issue but even then you have an obligation to balance when and how to prioritize. The better you position yourself the more you are capable to care for others.
