Here is a true story about a friend's family. You may not know it but after the Napoleonic wars many peace loving/pacifist German Christians moved to the Russian territories to live their lives in peace. For a time the found the peace they sought until the local Russians decided they didn't like these foreigners in their country and decided to make their lives miserable. One group of Germans in particular was easy prey. They were pacifist and had no weapons so the local Russians would launch a raiding parties killing men, raping women etc. Whole families were wiped out. Except my friend's family. They were pacifist Germans but they also had guns. They let everyone know they had guns and that were not afraid to use them. The raids continued until all the Germans left the area and moved to Canada but that one family was never bothered or threatened by the Russians. Moral of the story is simple. If you want peace prepare for war because if you prepare for peace war will surely follow.

But will there be a day when the guns will drop when the cries of the suffering cease will the world ever find true peace or will we be our ultimate cause of extinction killing one another until their is nothing and no one left

I believe it was Heinlein who wrote an armed society is a polite society. There is nothing wrong with being armed if no one ever uses them. The problems always arise when someone decides to disarm thinking that by doing so there will be peace. The arms don't cause war. People cause war.
